WE'RE HIRING!

FIELD ASSISTANT

Willow & Oak Farm, DBA Barn Swallow Blossoms is hiring a part-time (8-16 hr/week) field assistant for the 2022 season! This position is seasonal, running from May-October (with potential for winter hours, depending on need). Assistance is needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays, half days or full days (4-8 hours) depending on employee availability.

Responsibilities

  • PRIMARY TASK: Assist Kelly and Adam (owners) with cut flower harvest/processing:

    • Tuesday mornings for CSA, farm stand and orders

    • Thursday mornings, primarily for farmers market sales

  • If working afternoons, assist in other field tasks depending on needs/season, including:

    • Transplanting starts

    • Arranging flowers and preparing orders

    • Seeding and propagation in the greenhouse

    • Bed management: weeding, installing trellis nets, flipping beds, etc.

  • Potential to help with special projects as we build our farm, especially setting up spaces and infrastructure (wash station, self-serve farm stand kiosk, floral design studio, rebuilding greenhouse beds, fencing, etc.).

  • Potential to help with animal chores (currently pasture-raised chickens) if the employee has interest, but this is not required for this role.

Desired Skills

  • Some experience working efficiently and effectively in an organic production farm setting. Direct experience with cut flowers is not required (We’ll train you!) but it is a plus.

  • Physical ability to work on your feet for long periods of time and work in varying physical positions (standing, bending, kneeling). Ability to safely and consistently lift 30 lbs.

  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).

  • Clear, compassionate and direct communication skills. We value having a positive and reciprocally caring work culture, and good communication skills are a huge part of this!

  • Desire and enthusiasm to learn, think critically and ask good questions!

Compensation:

  • $15/hour to start. Review of wages to happen in late 2022 for potential raise if returning for the 2023 season.

  • Potential for position to grow in the future if desired. We’re a very new farm and hope to be able to offer more consistent employment and increased responsibility as our business grows with both cut flowers and pasture-raised animals.

  • Abundant free flowers and a free dozen eggs each week!
